Radon Removal Systems - Maine's First Choice in Radon Mitigation Since 1986!

HOW WE GOT STARTED

Radon Removal Systems has been in the mitigation business for the past 23 years.  It has been a family business since the beginning. Through the years my wife Deb and I have grown older in the business and our sons have grown up. Each of the boys spent their teenage and college years drilling holes in concrete slabs and running pipe along many obscure routes, climbing into attics and onto roofs installing systems. Our son Kris has moved to Chicago were he works as a systems analyst and our oldest sons, Greg and Scott have stayed in the business with us and now oversees the daily installations.

We became involved with the mitigation business almost unintentionally. I was working for the State of Maine and happened to participate in the very first classes offered on radon. These classes actually predated the EPA’s contractor proficiency program (RCCP) they were offered by the State of Maine through the staff at SMVTI in April of 1986. During the previous year the EPA discovered that radon was actually a soil gas. Prior to that time they had believed that the primary source of radon in the home came from water. The story of how that discovery was made is fairly interesting (click here if you would like to read It.).

I finished that class on a Friday. On Friday night a friend who was building houses at the time called me. He had heard the word radon for the first time that day. He heard it from a banker who had postponed his closing because his spec house had failed its’ radon test.  Since I had heard about it three or four days earlier at a class he asked me how to get rid of it. We put in the system. Gene sold his house; and we were in the radon business
